Novella Oliana is a visual artist, a researcher and a teacher. She mainly works with photography, writing and video. With a background in cultural studies, focusing on the Mediterranean and the Middle East, she is a PhD research scholar in photography and Visual Art at Aix-Marseille University (France). She lives and works in Rome and Marseille. Her practical and theoretical research focuses on the representation of the Mediterranean sea surface as a hybrid space where form and content transform and interact generating areas of contact, separation, interrelation and juxtaposition. Through an interdisciplinary approach, focused on a methodology of theory and practice, she considers photography as an artistic and perceptual experience where research, its methodology and the possibility of its theoretical development are placed. Photographic image, free from its mere aesthetic experience, becomes an open, stratified, transforming surface conveying the space of the process itself and providing an embodied experience.edit - Jean Arnaud, Maître de Conférences - Professeur agrégé, département des arts plastiquesedit
